Email sent to Zhao Gang, Secretary General of the China Overseas Fisheries Association.

The email asked questions on three areas: 1. China's distant water fishing fleet has been classified by various academic studies as the largest supplier of illegal, unregulated and underreported fishing. Do you agree with that description? What is the government doing to address this problem? 2. It has been confirmed that Chinese seafood processing factories exporting to the United States employ Uyghur and North Korean laborers. That could pose problems for companies in the U.S. and the European Union, which have strict bans on the import of products linked to Uyghur or North Korean labor. Is it legal to use labor of these two races in China? Or is the Chinese government trying to prevent these types of workers from working in factories exporting to banned countries? 3. How will China's distant water fishing fleet become an important part of China's future overseas development? Especially in terms of strengthening ties between China and countries in the southern hemisphere?

The same questions as the May 24, 2023 email were sent by email to the organization's Deputy Secretary General, Chen Xue Jian.

Future correspondence will be added here as this conversation continues.
